endlessexcuses said: Is there a difference in the morphology of "transgender" and "cisgender"? Why would it be okay to call people "cisgenders" when it is not okay to call people "transgenders"?

Privilege. Same reason gay people call straights “breeders”*. Same reason black people call whites “crackers”. There is an institutionalized imbalance in power. No slur against cisgenders has the effect of slurs against trans people. Using these words against the privileged is taking a stance against these power structures, and is a form of empowerment and self-defense.

Trans people are attacked daily by the privileged and by the media. It is a constant onslaught. We need every tool we have to fight back, to regain a sense of power and control. This is one tool of many. There are also counter-slurs like “cissy”. [Edit: Redacted.]

Gee guys I don’t see why the original version of that article is so bad. I mean it’s written in a way that reinforces all the preconceived stereotypes I, as a cisgender person mis-educated about trans people, hold as fact. What’s so wrong with that? The voice of privilege

I have severe gender issues within myself, which is why I’m going for corrective therapy. I guess I’m part of a small minority who doesn’t feel safe within their gender, in themselves.

Read my updated post. If you don’t feel safe, chances are very good an active influence is cissexist violence.

I don’t think it has anything to do with cissexism, however, I’d like to discover the root cause. I feel unsafe and disgusting in trans* spaces too… so I just feel it’s an innate sense of wrongness.

Well I wish you the best in figuring that out. Sorry to hear that.

However, some people do need psychological help re: their gender and I always think help in some form is a good thing before transition. If it’s not needed then fair enough but it’s good to check in.

Most trans people need therapy to cope with an ignorant, bigoted world. Not to receive “expert confirmation” of who they are. It isn’t that trans people have “gender issues”. It’s that cis people take issue with our genders. Tremendous difference between the two. Even for trans people who are struggling with their identities, that struggle exists because our world is built for binary-normative cis people and that bias is enforced with emotional and physical violence.

German teenager Kim Petras has become the world’s youngest operated transsexual youngest child whose personal surgical procedure has been made into a public spectacle by the media after undergoing a surgery at the age of just 16. The procedure – carried out in secret and paid for by the German health service, which doesn’t sound at all secretive to me– was authorised after psychologists cissexist gatekeepers confirmed used their privileged position of power and culturally-upheld superiority to proclaim that she was “without doubt a girl in a boy’s body” a girl, something she knew all along and didn’t need anyone else to tell her. It is the world’s youngest ever most sensationalized full sex change operation vaginoplasty what does “full sex change operation” even mean seriously you guys and Kim had been undergoing hormone therapy since the age of 12. We’re not sure why we need to report all this information. Should we list any other medications she might be on as well? I hear she took Nyquil a couple months ago too.Kim overcame years of taunts and bullying to achieve her dream of becoming a girl and now must contend with this kind of ignorant bullshit media coverage, isn’t that nice? And has begun a modelling career and launched a CD which is more of a contribution to the world than whoever wrote this original article could ever hope to give. Kim, who is now studying fashion design, began calling herself a girl when she was just two years old knew who the fuck she was since she was born jeez what a surprise you douchebags get over yourselves already.

This put such a smile on my face.

there’s so much problematic wording in here it makes me want to punch myself in the face
why is it that such a ‘positive’ story like this makes me unimpressed and feel oppressed?

I corrected it further. Might point to a few reasons why.
