Two Things to Remember when Discussing Transmisogyny
Disclaimer: seeing as I am writing mostly based on my own experiences as a binary-identified trans woman with conditional passing privilege, my phasing may be off at times. I often use the phrase “trans women” when I should be writing “trans women and many non-binary trans people who were coercively assigned male at birth”. Also I wrote this while raging pretty hard over the transmisogynist nonsense on the internet and also I use a lot of footnotes because I am long winded as hell. I’m hoping this doesn’t come off as binarist or erasing or super fucked up and please please please call me out if I’m being an ass.
In this essay I use the word “transmisogyny” a lot. For the sake of the essay I’d like to define transmisogyny as “the unique intersection of oppressions that arise from experience as a trans woman or other trans person who was coercively assigned male at birth”. This definition is by no means definitive and I highly recommend reading more on the subject.
