I think one of the reasons New Atheism is succumbing to lazy intellectualism is that human beings aren’t rational creatures. We are capable of rationality, but it usually takes a tremendous amount of effort, and a person at their best is still incredibly biased. Claiming that you’re fully rational and only act based on empirical evidence is kinda like saying you don’t see race. Not only does it conveniently hide your own bias, it denies the effects your actions have on others, and maintains an inner sense of superiority.
